PROGRAM
String quartets from Schubert to present-day composers
Melbourne-based Affinity Quartet explores diverse histories in the string quartet and aims to bring classical music to wider audiences with innovative programming.
The quartet has given Australian premières of complete string quartets by Janáček, Haas, Britten and Panufnik and world premières by Jack Symonds and Matt Laing. A 2016 International Tour included Prussia Cove International Musicians Seminar, Yehudi Menuhin Festival at London Southbank Centre, and concerts in Berlin with Brett Dean.
Affinity’s 2020 Season includes the Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale, a Melbourne Recital Centre Series, and performances in Europe and UK. Affinity Quartet comprises musicians from Australia’s leading orchestras and ensembles and has also been a featured ensemble with Play On Music, who describes them as ‘the next generation of Australian classical superstars’.
